Work Placement at Home

15 Oct 2021 - Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

I joined Hymans Robertson as part of my university degree curriculum in a year out of the ordinary. It was impressive how organised Hymans was under such unforeseen circumstances, and this began my positive impression of Hymans Robertson. I was interviewed by two of my colleagues within the team to which I applied. The process was much less stressful than expected. In fact, I really enjoyed it, mostly because both interviewers were very easy going and friendly. I was delighted to be offered the Analyst role within the I&A practice.

Since I joined at the same time as all the successful applicants from the graduate schemes, I joined as part of the graduate induction, which I must say was a hectic week to cover all the content. However, the induction week was very welcoming and thoughtfully structured. It gave me enough confidence by introducing the necessary history and structure of the firm, and the responsibilities of different business units.

Hymans Robertson goes by the values of “Partnering, Straightforward, Friendly and Confident”, which really came across to me during my one-year placement, especially the “friendly” aspect. I was allocated to a buddy soon after my virtual arrival into the team. During the onboarding of the actual Analyst role, he and all the other colleagues in the team were outstanding at explaining the terminologies and giving simple examples to support my learning. They always love a question and would patiently explain anything asked. During my year here, I could really feel the support through the compliments and constructive feedback from time to time. I was often encouraged to go out my way and was reassured that I had the ability whenever I was in doubt of myself. It was rewarding the moment I looked back to myself during the first few weeks of arrival, having learned all the things I know now but not before.

I loved my experience here at Hymans – the culture, the people, the learning opportunities I was offered... it is a job I will forever remember!
