Head of Sole Trustee Services

A service focused on supporting sole trustees strategically through its tailored support, data and insights and strategic leadership has been launched today, by Hymans Robertson. The new service – ST3 Sole Trustee |Concise. Continuous. Collaborative. will be delivered by a centralised, specialist client team at the leading pensions and financial services consultancy. The bespoke service is designed around the sole trustee’s specific experience and expertise, agility and pace of working, to help them manage their multiple appointments.

The ST3 service will provide agile, strategic support to sole trustees by partnering with them at their pace. It will provide essential insights when and where they need it, as well as peer-to-peer expert support. Strategic leads will be on hand as ‘in-the-moment’ sounding boards to provide strategic leadership for aligning stakeholders’ risk appetites with timely, efficient decision-making. This will allow streamlined execution of these decisions. The service also provides plug-and-play data, where and when sole trustees need it, so they will be able to achieve unparalleled momentum with their schemes. This will also enable them to work in dynamic collaboration with their advisers.

Central to the ST3 service are Hymans Robertson’s three Cs of Sole Trusteeship – Concise, Continuous and Collaborative:

Concise - focused and tailored communications that get to the heart of what matters most, enabling prioritisation and streamlined decisions to capture opportunities.

Continuous – delivering at a sole trustee’s pace of working, with control over where and when sole trustees access real-time data and insights, leveraged by consultants for in-the-moment advice.

Collaborative – strategic peer partners, harnessing sole trustees’ expertise and as well as Hymans Robertson’s team to optimise outcomes.

Commenting on the Sole Trustee sector and how ST3 will go on to meet the needs of the sector in the future, Shani McKenzie, Head of Sole Trustee Services, Hymans Robertson, says:

“We’ve seen the number of sole trustee appointments steadily rising for almost a decade. Alongside that, with schemes closing in on their endgames sponsors are keen to make strategic progress, often introducing sole trustees to support that. We’ve built on our concise, continuous and collaborative foundations to launch a new service that brings together the tailored service sole trustees need today, while at the same time responding to the emerging trends we expect in the future.

“Sole trustees have centralised approaches but find they are managing multiple pension schemes and service providers. Having a partner that integrates seamlessly with their systems and ways of working will likely be a defining approach for future success. The design of our centralised and specialist team means we can work with sole trustees in a way that optimises their governance structure and consistently delivers a service that is concise, continuous and collaborative.

“The combination of a regulatory drive to focus on endgame planning and the fully professional nature of sole trustee boards means sole trustees are seeking a different service from their advisers. The strategic leadership we will offer will support sole trustees in aligning stakeholders, create strategic agility and provide a sharp focus for scheme progress.”
