The government continues to play an active role in the LGPS, launching a further consultation on scheme improvements - Local Government Pension Scheme in England and Wales: Scheme improvements (access and protections).
This consultation follows the Access and Fairness consultation from earlier this year. It covers further administration and benefits related issues, some of which have long been in the offing, such as Fair Deal and the proposed re-admission of councillors into the scheme.
The consultation closes on 22 December 2025. In this note, we provide a brief overview of the proposals.
