A big-ticket item in January was formulating and submitting our response to the government’s ‘Fit for the Future’ consultation. In UK markets, we’ve been monitoring the rise in gilt yields and the effect on our clients’ portfolios. And further afield, we saw President Trump return to the White House for a second term.

As advisers to long-term investors, we’re taking a watchful stance without being unduly swayed by short-term market noise.

Against this backdrop, we’ve collated a roster of articles that set the scene for the year ahead. Here’s what’s on the menu for our first Investment Perspectives of 2025:

  • Elaine Torry sets out her six themes for DB private pension schemes, which include surplus management and targeted manager engagement.
  • Alison Leslie considers how Long-Term Asset Funds might evolve, particularly in the private markets space, and shines a spotlight on the decumulation phase.
  • David Walker shares a LGPS market outlook, exploring the priority themes for public sector funds in the 2025 valuation year (England and Wales).
  • As responsible investing (RI) is embedded into our firm, each of our outlook articles includes RI themes for our investment clients to consider. Tashemia Glen explains our new RI Health Check service, designed to help clients gauge their level of RI integration.
  • Sanjay Joshi explores the options for clients who want to invest with impact, from setting your ambitions to implementation.
  • Chris Arcari presents his views on recent market movements and the outlook for each asset class.
  • And finally, a fireside chat with former Senior Partner, John Dickson. After 22 years with us, John is retiring at the end of March. John’s dedication to Hymans Robertson has played a central role in leading our firm to where we are today.
