It’s been an eventful first quarter, bookended by the return of President Trump to the White House and the Chancellor’s Spring Statement in late March.

The latter brought news that while overall gilts issuance will increase, the proportion of long-dated issuance will fall. A lower proportion of long-dated issuance may alleviate concerns about the supply and demand imbalance at the long end of the market. But the fiscal headroom remains very low in historic terms – yields ultimately rose over the quarter.
