Governance Lead

With the Pensions Schemes Act 2026 now in force, LGPS Funds face a period of significant change. From revised investment governance arrangements to new reporting requirements and role appointments, Funds will need to adapt quickly to meet forthcoming deadlines.

In our briefing note, we explore what the new legislation means in practice and outline the priority actions Funds should consider now, including:

  • Review the Investment Strategy Statement (ISS) to ensure it reflects the new governance model.
  • Review responsible investment (RI) objectives and identify core principles that must be protected while working towards shared priorities across partner Funds.
  • Identify assets requiring transitional arrangements, particularly illiquid investments that cannot easily be transferred to the pool.
  • Engage actively in pool governance while arrangements are still being developed.
  • Check governance disclosures and ensure governance, training and conflicts of interest documentation meets new requirements.
  • Prepare for new appointments to the Senior LGPS Officer and Independent Person roles.
  • Review stakeholder consultation processes and ensure member and employer records are up to date.
