Getting Off to the Best Possible Start

Hymans Robertson is committed 'to work with our staff to make this the best job they will ever have' and an important part of that starts before you even join us. It's often a big decision to leave one employer and join another – will it work out? Will life at Hymans Robertson be as positive as it seems at interview? Are the people as nice as they seem? and so on…
We want to make a positive first impression and then live up to it! That's why we have recently introduced several changes to our policies.
Removal of eligibility criteria for family leave
Previously, those taking maternity, paternity, parental, adoption and shared parental leave had to be employed by the firm for 6-12 months before they could access the firm's more generous contractual benefits. Potentially a disincentive if you are about to start a family and your move to a new employer means you have to wait over a year before you can qualify for these benefits. If a new arrival is already on the way, you would previously have had to take holiday or unpaid leave to spend time with them.
Going forward, everyone who joins the firm will get access to our more generous contractual position from the first day – just as is the case with all the other benefits we offer.
Many years ago we made our benefits applicable from day one (rather than the end of probationary as they used to be) and now we will remove the probation period from our contracts of employment altogether. Again, it's about setting off on the right foot and being as inclusive as possible.
What won't change though is our first class induction process and the support structure that we provide during the first 3 months to all of our new joiners – feedback tells us very clearly that we are getting this right.
We're continuing to work to make our policies as progressive and inclusive as we can – it's the right thing to do and makes sound business sense too. Providing the best possible working environment helps ensure we can all do our best work and deliver the best service to our clients.
