Launched in the summer of 2021, our online platform is designed to support the training needs of Pension Committees, Pension Boards and Fund Officers, and will supplement training plans for all LGPS funds. The learning plan consists of a series of short video presentations with supplemental learning materials and quizzes.
We recognise the challenge of covering extensive training at quarterly meetings, especially with time being so limited. That’s why we’ve developed an online learning plan to make it easier for your members to obtain the knowledge required, in a more efficient and engaging way.
If you have any questions about the online learning academy, please contact us here.
Andrew McKerns was recently joined by Leicestershire Pension Fund and South Yorkshire Pensions Authority to discuss how both funds have utilised our LGPS Online Learning Academy and why it has aided their core training requirements. Click below to watch each interview:
1 min 12 seconds
Video on demand service – available on all devices
Monitor and record all progress for participants including all external learning
Monthly reporting produced for each member and Fund
‘Hot topic’ videos produced to aid Fund discussions and decision making
Jargon buster and relevant LGPS web links for each module area
Upload Fund specific training material in the all new ‘channels’ area
Funds will receive regular progress reports, allowing them to easily evidence their members’ knowledge and skills. Funds can also record all training that has taken place on the Learning Academy platform. This cost effective training provides LGPS funds with the key information required and allows them to record and track all training progress for Committee, Boards and Officers.

The Avon Pension Fund have recently signed up to the LOLA platform. Hymans made the sign up process for our 40 committee, pension board members and officers very straight forward.
The sessions are enjoyable to work through. It feels much more like a training session than the usual online learning, with a friendly face at Hymans running through the presentation slides. Plus if you miss anything the scripted version and helpful links to follow up reading are really useful. The added bonus is the reporting, so progress can be monitored for all your members with a click of a button.
Carolyn Morgan - Avon Pension Fund
What a great resource for both committee and board members, giving short, focussed training on key subjects and so fitting in with busy diaries.
I have found LOLA immensely helpful as there is easily accessible information on training undertaken which can be used as feedback or included in reports, which makes governance compliance easy.
Sally Fox - Oxfordshire County Council
I have been massively impressed by the Hymans Robertson’s LGPS Online Learning Academy – the clarity brought to an incredibly complex scheme is wonderful. The extensive range of training videos has proved hugely useful and informative, enabling me to better do my job. (Keeping them at a maximum of 20 minutes is ideal!)
Furthermore, I totally support the Academy’s goals; making training more accessible, while increasing the knowledge and understanding of all key LGPS stakeholders. I very much hope, in time, the Academy will develop a recognised range of qualifications.
Nick Weaver - Pension Board Chair of Avon Pension Fund (also interim Pension Manager)
Hymans Robertson has built a great LGPS training platform which has supplemented my own learning with short, easy to follow training videos and knowledge checks. I’m excited to see how this platform develops and aids the improvement of governance in the LGPS.
