Better Futures 100 - Stream 4
Our own 'Moral Maze' - topical ethical issues in tech
18 Nov 2021
Technology has the potential to radically transform the world for the better. So, how do we ensure that we're using technology in the right way to deliver a better financial future for generations to come?
At our virtual event on Thursday 18 November we brought together experts from a broad range of disciplines and explored the role technology plays within long-term savings, now and in the future.
In this session, we hosted our own version of BBC Radio 4’s ‘Moral Maze’ with a combination of presentations and challenging debate.
We explored some of the topical ethical issues in tech and the implications of these for each of us, as we seek to ensure better financial futures and spend increasing amounts of time interacting with digital tools and platforms.
Some of the areas we covered include:
When does automation go too far and should certain decisions should be reserved for humans?
Can robots really be less biased than humans?
Is there and acceptable ‘ethical cost’ of using tech to deliver operational efficiency?
Do we really need a ‘new’ ethical framework for the digital age?
