Great governance for fewer surprises
The trustee of this large network company pension scheme asked us to review its DB and DC Boards and organisational effectiveness.
In-depth research, observations and interviews were benchmarked against our governance frameworks, the Pensions Regulator’s (tPR) guidance and codes of practice and our experience of similar sized schemes.
Our recommendations included: putting in place a clear strategy; embedding risk management within the trustee’s business; enhancing the trustee’s professionalism; revising the organisational structure for both the trustee and secretariat (with a conversion to trustee executive); and improving the sponsor/trustee relationship.
After implementing the changes the trustees quickly felt the benefits of better decision making, an improved relationship with the sponsor, and using trustee time to maximum effect.
