DWP Consultation on Clarifying and Strengthening Trustees' Investment Duties
01 Aug 2018
We are broadly supportive of the Government’s proposals for changes to the investment regulations. The ambiguity in the current regulations has been a long-standing impediment to trustees being prepared to address the topic of responsible investment. It’s good to see barriers being pulled down and, in finally addressing the recommendations of the Law Commission, this consultation has made it clear that ESG issues should be on the agenda of all trustees.
We do however believe that trustees should have the time to be able to consider and implement the final regulations. While the timescale outlined in the proposals will make it happen, we would rather that trustees have the flexibility to give the subject sufficient consideration and develop policies which are right for them. Rather than just making change happen, we would rather the changes happen properly.
