5,000 hours of volunteering
01 Jun 2018 - Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
1st June not only marks the start of Volunteers’ Week in the UK, but the launch of 5,000 hours at Hymans Robertson: our drive to achieve 5,000 hours of volunteering across the firm in the coming year.
It will be a challenge. Last year around 25% of our people gave 1500 hours of their time to help out at a Hymans Robertson Foundation partner charity event, either through one of our local Helping Hands teams or the Financial Footsteps programme. Many others chose to support a charity close to their own hearts.
5,000 hours is a step change for us and creates a hugely ambitious target. However, we believe it demonstrates a purposeful and positive approach, and the collective responsibility that we as a firm have towards our local communities. We are all excited at the prospect.

To achieve our ambitious target we are increasing paid volunteering leave available to all our people, from 7 hours to 21 hours each year. This means everyone who wishes to can participate in both a team and individual volunteering day, and still have the time to support a charity of their choice. The move from 7 to 21 hours also provides greater flexibility in how our people chose to spend their volunteering time, opening up the possibility of more regular, shorter time commitments.
We hope that many of the established partner charities already supported by The Hymans Robertson Foundation will continue to benefit. These include: The Prince’s Trust, FreshStart, Mencap, SportInspired and The Church Housing Trust. And there are plans afoot to work with some new partners during the coming year.
We’re firm believers that volunteering makes everyone better off and our goal is to encourage more of our people to join in.
It promises to be a busy volunteering year!
