Longevity improvements: have we reached a tipping point?
02 Nov 2015
Over recent years we have seen material volatility in longevity improvements, creating uncertainty around whether life expectancy is starting to level out, or continue to increase at pace. Recently published data downgrades the outlook for life expectancy by around ½ year – that’s about 2% off annuity liabilities.
But how much confidence can we have in this new data? Is it appropriate to weaken technical provisions? Or is there an alternative way of interpreting the data?
During this webinar, we will explore the reasons behind the recent volatility in life expectancy and explain why we advocate caution over this latest news. We will also share latest insights on emerging trends from our Club Vita database, covering over 1 in 7 of all UK pensioners.
The webinar will be framed in the context of UK DB pension schemes, but our insights will provide food for thought for those managing longevity risk in UK insurers and reinsurers. This topic will also be explored in our Life Insurance Hot Topics Seminar a few days later on 5 November.
