Research/Technical Support Actuary

 The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Support Actuary to work alongside the team to provide technical support across the firm on all issues with a particular focus on actuarial matters.   Reporting to the Senior Actuary, the successful candidate will provide support to colleagues on both private and public sector schemes.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Providing high quality generic written material for issue to clients as well as technical bulletins for internal use.
  • Providing and updating templates and precedents for use across the business with a particular focus on actuarial matters.
  • Providing support to the actuarial practice on professional issues to include ensuring models, reports and advice comply with relevant professional guidance from the actuarial profession and BAS.
  • Helping to set the firm’s policy and views on technical and professional matters, changes in legislation and guidance, and taking the lead in preparing responses to consultations.
  • Helping to set and keep under review, policies on conflicts of interest, peer review and other areas. 

  Qualifications and Experience:

  • Fellow of the Faculty or Institute of Actuaries
  • Proven experience in a client facing or technical support/research role (experience of public sector schemes would be an advantage).
  • Strong pensions technical skills and a strong and in-depth understanding of the legislative framework for UK pension schemes.
  • Able to communicate and explain complex, technical information and ideas in a manner others will understand.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels within the firm.
  • A strong team player with a motivational practical approach.
  • A hands-on self starter.
  • Excellent attention to detail and first class organisational skills.
  • Able to think innovatively and “outside the box” as well as seeking improvements to technical support processes.
