Actuarial Consultant

We are looking for a senior Actuarial Consultant to provide an efficient, high quality service to our large portfolio actuarial public sector clients.  Based in Glasgow, the successful candidate will be a lead technical consultant and fund actuary in the field of actuarial and consulting advice relating to public sector pension funds.  This role may include the supervision and development of actuarial analysts, trainee consultants and/or practice support staff.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing day to day delivery of consultancy work to a portfolio of clients.
  • Providing support to other Senior Consultants on larger, more complex clients together with account development and new business activities.
  • Preparing for and attending client meetings.
  • Managing and developing client relationships.
  • Developing technical knowledge and client servicing skills of trainee consultants.
  • Acquiring and maintaining a solid understanding of the firm’s products and services.
  • Assisting in the mentoring and coaching of staff.
  • Carry out timely performance reviews for any direct reports, ensuring relevant training is provided.
  • Ensuring any direct reports comply with working practices and time recording.
  • Ensuring timely billing and recovery of fees.
  • Adhering and contributing to the professional standards and quality systems of the firm.
  • Flexibility to travel to clients throughout the UK.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Fellow of the Faculty or Institute of Actuaries.
  • Proven experience in a pensions consultancy role.
  • A working knowledge of the pensions field, with one or more areas of expertise.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in partnership with clients to establish their needs.
  • Proven project management techniques.
  • An enthusiasm to keep up to date with pensions legislation.
